RSUA Education and Careers Committee update

19/02/25

The RSUA Education and Careers Committee met today in the RSUA office.

The RSUA Work Experience guide to a week of work experience in an architects’ practice for a year 13 or 14 pupil in Northern Ireland was discussed at the meeting. The Committee agreed that this guide would be finalised by the end of February and issued to the membership in March.

Chair of the Committee Jenny Harper provided an update on her meetings with CITB NI and Construction Futures NI to explore the potential opportunities for RSUA to work with the respective organisations to promote architecture as a career.

The Committee discussed the benefits of Part 1 placement in Architecture courses being embedded as a sandwich year into the undergraduate degree. This has been added to the agenda for discussion at the next RSUA Council meeting on Monday 10 March.

Alan Jones provided an update on the RIBA Interface Conference. Themes discussed at the conference included changes and pressures faced by architects, opportunities for future architects and educational models around the world.

Jenny Harper provided the Committee with an update on the Professional Insights Programme and the New Architects Party.

The Education and Careers Committee will next meet on 14 May 2025.
