‘The Water Canon’ design competition for Early Career Architects launches

‘The Water Canon’ is the RSUA/JP Corry Design Competition for 2025. It challenges Early Career Architects to propose creative ideas for a public outdoor installation to make people think about our relationship with water.

Water is life. It is something to be celebrated and cherished. In Northern Ireland we are fortunate to have water in abundance. We are in danger of taking it for granted.

‘The Water Canon’ presents an opportunity to engage the public in a celebration of rainfall and water, to increase public awareness of the unique importance of water, to highlight the challenges faced by our water system and to potentially showcase ideas for how water can be better integrated into our built environment.

The competition aims to:

  • Generate debate, interest and discussion on our relationship with water in Northern Ireland and its interaction with the built environment.
  • Explore the role that mini design-competitions can play in delivering imaginative small projects which enrich the urban environment
  • Unleash and showcase the creative talents of early-career architects from Northern Ireland

The project is small and the time is tight – the deadline for submissions is 12 October 2025 but please do register immediately by emailing Julia Leaker and Kerry Campbell on info@rsua.org.uk.
