The RSUA Women in Architecture group met online today. Chaired by Olivia Loughlin, the group provides support and inspires women working as architects and women aspiring to work as architects. It provides a network for women architects to share their experiences, learn from and support each other.

The group discussed the upcoming ‘returning to work’ CPD event. The event is being planned for December and will be for architects who are returning to practice having had an extended period of absence. This be for maternity leave, a career break or long-term illness. The group considered speakers and topics to be covered and will send their suggestions to RSUA for actioning by 18 October.

The RSUA Maternity, Paternity and Adoptive Parents Policy, drafted by the Women in Architecture group, was approved by RSUA Council on 9 September 2024. A final version of the summary document and policy were viewed by the Women in Architecture group and the policy was shared with wider RSUA membership.

It was agreed that a trip to see the Eileen Gray exhibition in Dublin will be organised for a Friday or Saturday in January 2025.

Also discussed at the meeting was the possibility of collaborating with the Women in Architecture group in Karachi, Pakistan. It was agreed that the RSUA Women in Architecture should engage with the group in Pakistan with a view to hosting a joint meeting/initiative.

The Women in Architecture group will next meet in person on 22 January 2025.
