RSUA welcomes Assembly Question on City Architects

5 July 2024

The RSUA welcomes a recent Assembly question (ref AQW 10730/22-27) by Strangford MLA, Michelle McIlveen, on whether consideration has been given to a feasibility study on the value of Town, City or County Architects for Northern Ireland.

The Minister replied that while his ‘department has no current plans regarding a feasibility study on the value of Town, City or County Architects for Northern Ireland…..it has recently commenced a review of the Architecture and Built Environment Policy for Northern Ireland, and the value of a Town, City or County Architect will be considered as part of this review process.

This is a positive development and the RSUA looks forward to working with the review team on this issue and many others. It should be noted that during our recent engagements with Heads of Planning in local councils, this issue has also been raised and there is clearly enthusiasm towards such a role being developed.
