RSUA receives further information on changes to Building Regulations

06/01/2021

Following on from December’s update on NZEB and after further representations RSUA has received a briefing note from the Committee for Finance at the Northern Ireland Assembly which provides more background to the recent Information Note issued by Building Regulations branch. RSUA will be writing to the Finance Minister shortly to seek a date by which draft technical guidance will be published which enacts the NZEB regulations in the way they were originally intended.

In the meantime architects can continue to design buildings to meet existing building regulations but RSUA believes it would be prudent to inform clients that improved energy performance standards are coming. It is quite possible that buildings built to today’s energy performance standards may require retrofitting in the next 10 years as we move toward net zero carbon. An RSUA advice note for architects to provide to their clients will be given further consideration later this month.
