RSUA presents joint Manual for Streets proposal to DfI

In December 2024, RSUA met with then-Minister for Infrastructure (DfI) John O’Dowd to discuss a range of issues affecting architecture in Northern Ireland.

One of the key matters raised was our desire to see Manual for Streets (MfS) adopted in Northern Ireland.

This Manual, well-established in England and Wales, provides guidance for professionals involved in planning, designing, developing, and approving new or modified streets, aiming to improve quality of life through its strong focus on the needs of residents.

We committed to send a letter of support for the adoption of MfS to DfI and – with the input and support of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) and the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) – presented a one-page proposal to Minister O’Dowd’s successor, Liz Kimmins, after a follow-up meeting on 1 April 2025.
