RSUA presents City and Council Architects paper to DfC

Today, RSUA submitted its first dedicated paper to the Department for Communities (DfC) advocating for the reintroduction of City and Council Architects to Northern Ireland, a vital step, we believe, towards enhancing our built environment in the coming years.

This follows RSUA’s meeting earlier this year with DfC Minister Gordon Lyons, who expressed interest in the concept and welcomed the opportunity to explore it further.

The paper in brief

RSUA believes that City and Council Architects could drive transformative improvements in the built environment. Our paper presents the creation of these roles as a potential means to help address a range of pressing challenges, including those connected to housing, regeneration and myriad other policy objectives.

It also considers how these architects could operate within government, coordinating across councils and working directly and authoritatively with NI Executive departments.
