RSUA meets RIAI to discuss all-island co-operation
2 October 2024
The RSUA President and Director, John Lavery and Ciarán Fox, recently met in Dublin with their counterparts from the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland (RIAI), Sean Mahon, President and Kathryn Meghen, Chief Executive Officer, to discuss co-operation between the two professional bodies representing architects on the island of Ireland.
The meeting provided an opportunity to review the 2001 agreement between the two organisations which formalised cooperation on a number of areas of activity which related to the advancement of architecture and the delivery of the highest standards of architectural practice.
It was agreed to renew and update the agreement. Proposals will now be taken to the Councils of both organisations.
Other items discussed included:
- The overlap in recording of Continuous Professional Development on the RIAI, RIBA and ARB platforms.
- RSUA’s work to support NI architects to work in the Republic of Ireland
- Potential opportunities arising through the Shared Island Initiative
- The potential for the RSUA Conservation Course to be recognised to some degree in the RIAI Conservation accreditation system
- An update on activities in each jurisdiction
The next RSUA/RIA liaison meeting will take place in spring 2025.
