RSUA Design Quality Panel 2026-2030 meets for the first time

On Thursday, the newly refreshed RSUA Design Quality Panel met in 2 Mount Charles for the first time.

The RSUA Design Quality Panel is a group of peer-approved architects who assist clients with brief development, assessment of design quality at tender, judging design competitions and undertaking design reviews. The panel was established in 2018

After receiving over 75% support from RSUA Council, the following architects were approved to join the Design Quality Panel 2026-2030:

At the meeting, the panel discussed and agreed on the range of services to be offered. The services were split into different headings for different audiences and include:

Planning

  • Councils would be able to seek a design review
  • Applicants would be able to seek a design review at pre-application stage
  • Training for officials and councillors
  • Assistance with planning application objections

Clients

  • Assistance with the process of appointing an architect/design team
  • Design review of a project at various stages
  • Training in design quality
  • Judging design competitions
  • Input to design guides
  • Input to business case development
  • Post-construction review

Peer review

  • Assisting architects in private practice through confidential peer review

The panel is currently developing a code of conduct and agreeing a pricing structure for the services offered. They will meet again in October.
