RSUA Continuing Professional Development Committee update

24 July 2024

The Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Committee met this afternoon in the RSUA office.

At the last meeting, the Committee raised a query about sharing RIAI CPD logs with ARB. RSUA Director Ciarán Fox agreed to raise this query directly with ARB at a meeting in September. It was noted that the best solution for logging CPD activities was to do so on the RIBA portal first and then download the log. This can then be uploaded to other systems.

It was also agreed that a reminder to log CPD activities before the December deadline would be issued to members in Autumn.

The Committee discussed the relevance of the Construction Professionals Health and Safety course, following the review presented by Jonathan Speirs of Hall Black Douglas at the last meeting. The Committee agreed that the course would be of most benefit to attendees if it was restructured to consist of a half-day introduction course and a half-day refresher course.

The Committee then reviewed the list of CPD events that have happened since their last meeting in February and the list of upcoming events in the CPD calendar.

Jim Armstrong suggested possible topics for upcoming sessions, including the role of the Principal Designer under Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations.

Joan McCoy has also been approached to lead a session on the New Building Safety Act in the Autumn.

Also agreed at the meeting was a call for new CPD Committee members, to be issued in Autumn.

The RSUA Continuing Professional Development Committee will next meet online on Tuesday 24 September 2024.
