RIBA Council – Take a Seat
07/06/2022
For RSUA members interested in sitting on RIBA Council now is the time to put their name forward.
RSUA is guaranteed two seats on RIBA Council. One is reserved for the RSUA President, and the other is reserved for an RSUA member elected directly by the RSUA members. Nominations for the RIBA NI Representative seat opened on 31 May 2022. If only one person is nominated, this means no election is necessary and the seat is theirs. If more than one person is nominated, then the result will be decided by an election.
There are also a number of other opportunities for RSUA members to get involved in RIBA Council. Here is the full list:
- RIBA NI seat (as mentioned above – election in NI only): Any current Chartered Member is eligible to stand for a three-year term.
- UK seats (election across UK): Any current Chartered Member is eligible to stand for one of the two seats available in 2022 for a three-year term.
- RIBA President (election across UK): Any current Chartered Member is eligible to stand for RIBA President. The successful candidate will take up office as President-Elect from September for one year and will then serve as RIBA President for a two-year term beginning September 2023.
- Associate seat (election across UK): Any current Associate Member in the UK or any person who is eligible to become one, may stand for the associate seat, for a period of up to three years.
- Student seats (election across UK): Any student of architecture in the UK who is either a RSUA/RIBA member or eligible to become one may stand for one of the two student seats, for a period of up to three years.
Time Commitment
RIBA Council meets four times per year. We expect these meetings to be a mix of online and in person. Where the meetings are in person, members will have to travel to London. All travel and accommodation expenses will be paid for.
