Result of RIBA Elections
The outcome of the election to represent Northern Irish architects on RIBA Council took an unexpected twist when both Martin Hare and Saul Golden polled 97 votes each. In accordance with RIBA regulations the result was decided by coin toss and Saul was duly elected.
Northern Irish representation on RIBA Council was consolidated with the success of John Cole in the UK-wide election. From a field of 16 candidates John took one of the six available seats after securing 252 first preference votes and being elected with 367 votes after transfers.
Former RSUA President Alan Jones polled strongly in the election for RIBA President picking up 1,546 first preferences and was less than 400 votes behind the successful candidate, Ben Derbyshire.
Election turnout in Northern Ireland was approximately 30% which might not sound great until seen in the context of a UK wide average turnout of 15%. All candidates have asked RSUA to thank everyone who voted for taking the time to do so
