Public appointment applications open for Just Transition Commission

On the 29th of April 2026, the Just Transition Commission was established in regulation as a statutory advisory body in Northern Ireland. The purpose of the Commission is to support Government to deliver its net zero commitments in a way that is fair, through:

  1. Overseeing the implementation of the just transition elements of the Act; and
  2. Providing advice to departments on how to ensure that proposals, policies, strategies, and plans required under the Act comply with the just transition principle.

A public appointment process has now been launched to appoint a Chair and 15 members to the Commission, composed of representatives from 12 sectors: academia, agriculture, built environment, civic society, energy, environmental groups, fisheries, green finance, the rural sector, trade unions, transport and youth groups.

Interested persons can find more details and apply in the links below:

Completed applications must be returned to the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs by 12 Noon on Thursday 25 June 2026.
