Anne Donaghy, Chief Executive of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council was joined by Paul Duffy, Head of Planning at a meeting with RSUA members to provide an update on the improved planning performance at M&EA, to explain the factors that have enabled this and to provide members with an opportunity to discuss wider issues with the Council.
Anne came into post five years ago when councils were revitalised and explained that prior to her appointment there were issues relating to outdated Local Development Plans, economic challenges and a varied political make up across the Borough. M&EA invested in re-educating planners and elected members to support behavioural change and build trust – M&EA also facilitate Pre-Application Discussion (PADS) and have no plans to charge for this service. In order to respond to the economic difficulties, M&EA established a Manufacturing Forum to address job losses in the Borough.
