Preparing for Practice

The next "Preparing for practice" will take place in August 2026

RSUA, in partnership with Architecture at Queen’s and ARCex, each year invites all Part 3 students due to take their exams in September to “Preparing for practice”, which is an informal pre-exam discussion led by experts in their respective fields.

Whilst this event is focussed on helping Part 3 students prepare for their final exams it also provides a useful refresher to any recently qualified architects and Part 2 students. Indeed, all architects and architecture students are welcome to attend.

The 2025 event is took place on 27 August 2025 in the Canada Room at Queen's University Belfast.

Topics and speakers included:

  • How the Building Safety Act is coming to Northern Ireland (Joan McCoy, White Ink Architects)
  • Construction economics (Adrian Malleson, RIBA)
  • AI in professional practice (Breffni Greene, Henry J Lyons)
  • Being held accountable (Jim Armstrong, JS Held)
  • Mandatory competences & ‘The Way Ahead’ (Jenny Russell, RIBA)
