Part 2 + 1 Professional Experience

Hall Black Douglas offer an excellent environment for early career architectural assistants to develop their skills and complete their Part 3 experience. Due to the wide variety of projects and sectors our students enjoy a breadth of learning and practice from conception to completion of projects, whilst gaining an understanding of being a professional with an established practice. With over half of our architects gaining Part 3 within the practice, there are ongoing opportunities within our the studio environment for mentoring and knowledge transfer for those eager to learn.

Hall Black Douglas value a considered and contextual approach to design and a desire to meet and exceed client aspirations.  We have been transforming the spaces and communities in which we work for over forty years and are looking for architects to assist us in ongoing innovation. We seek to make a positive contribution designing spaces for living, working, wellbeing, learning, gathering and celebrating. This has recently been recognised in the 2025 RIAI Awards were Monaghan Peace Campus won both Public Building and Universal Access Awards.

A highlight from last year was receiving RSUA/RIBA Regional Design Awards for two Conservation led projects, Bank Buildings and St Comgalls Community Hub, with our whole office in attendance at the RSUA Design Awards Gala evening. In June all staff enjoyed a Friday afternoon on a Taste of Belfast tour and in November a tour of three of our current buildings on site followed by Flout Pizza at Portview, both were welcome additions to our regular in house CPD.

We offer a wide variety of CPD and support targeted CPD courses for individual career development within the practice: NEC Project Management/Supervisor; BIM Management; Passive House; Conservation RSUA/RIAI. Alongside this we host building visits and social events outside the office.
You would be joining a team of twenty people, working on a wide variety of interesting projects across multiple sectors: including but not limited to: Community, Health, Culture, Leisure and Residential. We have successfully delivered NZEB and BREEAM Excellent projects and have qualified Passive House designers within the practice.
