The Architects Registration Board (ARB) is currently consulting on a set of proposed reforms intended to simplify how people join or return to the UK Register of Architects. The aim is to simplify the process while continuing to protect professional standards.
At the centre of the proposals is a new Registration Assurance Process (RAP) that would replace the current assessment systems. It is intended to provide a more consistent approach to assessing applicants in a range of circumstances.
The consultation will close for responses on Monday 2 February 2026.

Route R – Re-entry or delayed entry for qualified architects
Applicants who have been off the Register for more than two years, or whose Part 3 qualification is more than two years old, would need to demonstrate readiness to practise. Evidence could include:
Route P – Temporary route for partially qualified professionals
This temporary route is for applicants with accredited Part 2 and Part 3 qualifications but no accredited Part 1. Requirements include:
Applicants would not need to take the Part 1 Prescribed Exam.
Route C – Architects removed for CPD non-compliance
