Five Presidents meet in Edinburgh

On 21 September 2023, RSUA President Paul McAlister and RSUA Director Ciarán Fox travelled to Edinburgh, Scotland for the bi-annual Five Presidents Meeting. Paul and Ciarán gathered together with the Presidents and Directors from the Royal Society of Architects in Wales, The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland, the Royal Institute of British Architects and The Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland.

The group discussed a series of important issues including, Retrofit Examplar Directory, Proactive Membership, the Meaning of Value, Social Listing, Positive Procurement and the Public Face of Architecture.

During the visit the group met with the teams from Architype and GRAS to learn more about their workspaces and projects. They also viewed the work of Mary Arnold Foster Architects. The group were joined by the Architects Council for Europe and Chief Planning Officer for Scotland, who hosted a visit to the Scottish Parliament.

It was a rewarding and educational visit, we extend our thanks to RIAS for hosting and look forward to the next meeting in January 2024 in Cardiff.
