RSUA met with the new Finance Minister, Máirtín Ó Muilleoir today to discuss the pipeline of public sector construction projects.
Following the meeting Ciarán Fox, Director of RSUA said, “The Minister made it clear that he is determined to find ways of increasing the levels of investment in our built environment. He wants to see the smarter use of public sector funding to lever in more private sector investment and to deliver quality development that enhances our built environment.”
“RSUA and all members of the NI Construction Group are ready to work with the Minister towards achieving this goal. We stressed to the Minister the importance of visibility of future projects to enable the industry to manage their businesses in a way that enables them to deliver the best outcomes.”
“The Minister has also committed to finding out if the budget for new public buildings will have 1% ringfenced for art.”
RSUA intends to build on this initial engagement and will seek to support the Minister by proposing ways of improving how public sector buildings are commissioned, procured and delivered.
