
RSUA organised this one-hour webinar with Senior Counsel William Orbinson for members seeking practical guidance on the planning application and appeals processes.
The session provided a concise guide to the approach of the Planning Appeals Commission (PAC) to determining planning appeals, drawing on the content of the recently published 6th edition of the speaker’s publication on the topic, written with the collaboration of the PAC.
Course content
Attendees gained a greater understanding of how the PAC goes about reaching its decisions, allowing for appeal evidence to be tailored to the principles applied by the Commission to maximise the prospects of success.
Speaker – William Orbinson
Northern Ireland’s only Senior Counsel with an exclusive specialism in planning, William Orbinson KC spends his time providing success-focussed expert planning advice, and pursuing that focus in development plan independent examinations, planning inquiries, appeals, enforcement appeals, and judicial reviews. William is the only local Silk to have qualified as a Legal Associate of the Royal Town Planning Institute, and to be an Affiliate of the Irish Planning Institute. Chair of the Northern Ireland Planning Bar Association, the Planning Appeals Commission Users Group, and the Environmental and Planning Law Association for Northern Ireland, he taught planning law at Queen’s University Belfast and is a regular speaker at planning conferences throughout these islands.
Last but not least, he is a longstanding Affiliate of RSUA. Over the past 30 years, William has developed a particular specialism in the field of planning appeals, drawing on his close understanding and wide experience of the principles that will be explained in his webinar.
