Education and Careers Committee Update

The RSUA Education and Careers Committee met for it’s first meeting in 2026 yesterday.

ARB Education Reform

In 2025, a subgroup of the Education and Careers committee was established to review the substantial changes that may affect how employers are expected to provide professional practical experience to trainees.

RSUA is hosting a meeting for all RSUA members at 10am on Wednesday 25 February 2026 in Mount Charles, to help members gain an understanding of what the ARB reforms may entail and their potential impact on Northern Ireland. Representatives from Queen’s University, Ulster University and ARC-ex will also attend the  meeting to discuss their approaches to the changes.

If you’d like to attend the meeting on 25 February, please contact Jude Faloon (jude@rsua.org.uk) to register your attendance.

Engagement with Other Organisations

This committee is exploring ways to engage with Construction Futures and the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) in 2026. There are a number of careers events and initiatives, for both primary and secondary school children that RSUA members may be able to get involved with.

Green Skills Action Plan

The committee discussed ways to contribute to the Department for Economy (DfE) Green Skills Action Plan. This strategy outlines the knowledge and skills required to support a sustainable, low carbon economy. RSUA has been invited to contribute to the Domestic Low Carbon and Energy Efficiency Task Group. The purpose of the task group is to identify current and future skills needs.

The next Education and Careers Committee meeting will take place at 1pm on 15 April 2026 in 2 Mount Charles, Belfast, BT7 1NZ.
