On 8th March 2023 to mark International Women’s Day RSUA held an event to explore the future of work in architectural practice. Following a range of industry speakers, special guest Dr Marie-Louise Thornton provided an insight into menopause and its impact on women in work.
Dr Thornton has agreed to a follow up discussion at the next meeting of the RSUA Women in Architecture which will be held at 12pm on Wednesday 19 April 2023 at RSUA’s offices. All RSUA’s female members are invited to attend. To reserve your place, contact Courtney Mageean on courtney@rsua.org.uk.
It is important that organisations and managers know how to provide support for employees who are on their journey through menopause and that employees feel confident to raise any concerns. Raising awareness on this topic and reducing the stigma attached to it is vital so that open discussions can take place.
RSUA Women in Architecture has recently endorsed the guidance produced by RIBA around menopause. The guidance aims to help organisations and managers understand the key facts about menopause and how they can support those around them. These internal resources are provided for use as a template to create your own workplace guidance.
The guidance has been separated into two categories and can be viewed below:
RIBA Menopause Guidance for Colleagues
RIBA Menopause Guidance for Line Managers
