The first part of Architecture Night 2016 on 21st October 2016 was dedicated to celebrating the people who will shapeNorthern Ireland’s future built environment – the architecture students.
Each year RSUA gives two awards – for undergraduates it is the Bronze Medal and for postgraduates it is the Silver Medal. Traditionally for both awards there is the Medal winner and a runner-up who receives the ‘Best in School’ award.
The judges this year were Paul Crowe and Kieran McGonigle. Six students were shortlisted for each award with three of each shortlist coming fromUlsterUniversityand three from Queen’s University Belfast.
The Bronze Medal shortlist in 2016 was:
The judges could not separate the top two undergraduate students and so in a break with tradition both Holly Dale and Callum Holgate received a Bronze Medal with no Best in School prize being awarded.
The Silver Medal shortlist in 2016 was:
The winner of the Silver Medal was David Magennis and the runner up prize, Best in School, went to Rachel Heaney.
Commenting on the student medals Ciarán Fox, RSUA Director said, “I would like to congratulate the all the shortlisted students and particularly the medal winners. The judges were very impressed with the standard of the students’ work and had a really difficult job in selecting the winners. We’re delighted to really showcase the students work this year and we look forward to getting architecture students much more actively involved in RSUA and in helping them shape the future in which they will work.”
