Bereavement Notice: Douglas Elliott

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the recent passing of Douglas Elliott, who died peacefully at his home in Bangor on Thursday 7 October 2021.

Douglas was an Honorary Member of RSUA.  Over his career he was involved in a wide range of roles in the design world including designer, the ownership of Batik Creative Design Store, a founding director with architect colleagues of two architectural practices, a developer, a conservationist and a commissioner of art. He was primarily responsibility for the preservation, restoration and rejuvenation of a series of important buildings in Belfast including the Ormeau Baths on Ormeau Avenue and the Meter House at the Gasworks Development in Belfast, both of which, in 1998 and 2003 respectively, won RIBA awards.

With his colleagues he was also deeply involved in the design of a series of new buildings including the new Batik building at the Gasworks and a series of individual houses and small rural housing developments, the design quality of which was regularly acknowledged by the receipt of further design awards.

His funeral was held on Tuesday 12th Oct at Roselawn Crematorium. Donations may be sent if desired to the Alzheimer’s Society, c/o Clarke and Son Funeral Directors, 64 Newtownards Road, Bangor, Co own, BT20 4DR.
