The Royal Society of Ulster Architects has launched Guidance on the Architect’s Fee Payment Schedule in relation to the RIBA 2020 Plan of Work. You can view the document by clicking here.
The purpose of the document is to provide guidance to construction clients in Northern Ireland on how an architect’s total fee is allocated across the Royal Institute of British Architects’ (RIBA) work stages from appointment through to handover.
Previous versions of the RIBA Plan of Work set out a payment schedule which indicated the percentage of the architect’s fee to be paid during each RIBA work stage. The 2020 version does not do this and therefore the Royal Society of Ulster Architects (RSUA) is stepping in to provide guidance.
Through the RSUA Guidance on the Architect’s Fee Payment Schedule we have sought to establish a benchmark where the interests of the client, architect and wider society have been fairly balanced. The guidance aims to help deliver:
The guidance covers both traditional full design, the develop and construct model and the default requirement for monthly payments during each RIBA stage.
We will be promoting this document to construction clients and we encourage you to reference the guidance in your engagement with your own clients as we seek to establish this as an industry norm.
If you have any questions or feedback on the guidance, please feel free to contact Ciarán Fox on ciaran@rsua.org.uk
