The winning design from the ‘Under the Shelter of Each Other/ Ar Scáth a Chéile’ design competition has now been installed in Iris Alley.

The entry, ‘The Shed: Gather and Grow’ by Jennifer Speirs, Adrienne Campbell and William Brady envisioned a multi-use shelter that would act as a catalyst for the transformation of Belfast’s disused alleyways into green and vibrant communal spaces where community can flourish. The competition judges chose The Shed for its creativity and thoughtful incorporation of Iris Street residents’ needs.

The RSUA joined residents of Iris Alley, project partners 9ft in Common, JP Corry, Workforce and the winning designers in June to celebrate the launch of the alleyway shelter. Residents are already using the shelter as a hub for community gardening and a gathering spot for neighbours to come together.
