Acropolis Now claim top prize at annual quiz

17/03/2022

The Perfectly Proportioned Quiz of Architecture and Other Things 2022 took place on Wednesday 16 March in aid of Simon Community NI and it was Acropolis Now, the reigning champions, who once again came out on top.

Nine teams braved a total of ten rounds which included a focus on architects in film and music, olympic logos, general knowledge, and of course, architecture. The questions were formulated by University of Ulster’s Rory Caithness, who played quizmaster on the night and Dr Martina Murphy, who performed the most important role of scoremaster! RSUA Event Officer Greg Fox was also on duty to ensure the proceedings went smoothly.

As standard, there were also building challenges. One of the many spot prizes awarded on the night by RSUA’s Ciarán “Fastest Finger First” Fox was for the winner of the ‘tin foil hat challenge’. Each team was asked to craft their best and most stylish metallic millinery and showcase them on the catwalk. Fashionista (and RSUA President) Donal MacRandal, chose the most fashion-forward candidate who won a prize.

In addition, the Great British Build Off (open to all participants) saw teams attempt to construct the tallest structure possible from two mere materials: spaghetti and blue tack. Congratulations to all for their dazzling designs, we’re sorry to those which fell at the last hurdle – on the way to stage!

It was another hotly contested quiz this year and in the end, by only half a point in fact, it was Acropolis Now who snatched victory from The Flying Buttresses. We invite everyone to come back in 2023 to try and topple these titans of trivia!

The event raised just over £260 for the Simon Community NI. Thank you to everyone who joined us and, in particular, our sponsors:
