A Clean Air Strategy for Northern Ireland – Discussion Document
20/01/2021
The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) has launched a discussion document on developing a Clean Air Strategy for Northern Ireland. The impact of air pollution on public health is becoming more widely understood and this document outlines some of the key pollutants in our air.
Transport, home heating, agriculture, and industry are all contributors to air pollution and our choices can reduce pollution and improve the environment. The density (or otherwise) of population can influence the mode of travel people select, and how we heat our homes can have a substantial impact on the amount of particulate matter generated. Ammonia generated by livestock bred for human consumption also negative impacts the environment.
The Department is seeking contributions to shape future policies for ministerial consideration and you can submit your ideas on reducing air pollution to inform this work.
