Every year, the RSUA runs the Alan Barnes Scholarship for 3rd Year Undergraduates. The Scholarship offers the opportunity for Architecture students to travel to discover architecture in a destination of their choosing. Find out more about the Alan Barnes Scholarship here.
Winner of the Alan Barnes scholarship in 2024, Daniel Vasey, has returned today from a week’s stay in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The main aim of Daniel’s visit was to consider the blend of the Medieval old town with a modern skyline and how this contrast has helped shape the city and create an identity which could not be replicated elsewhere.
Daniel expects his trip to have an impact on both his future studies and potential career. It offered him an important opportunity to reflect on how the approach to protecting cultural heritage in Baku could help to influence the approach to built heritage in Northern Ireland.
