Women in Architecture visit Hemp Cottage

RSUA Women in Architecture enjoyed an informative and entertaining visit to Rachel Bevan’s ‘Hemp Cottage’ which is located just outside Crossgar, County Down.  A truly sustainable and high-quality build, where the floor is insulated with polystyrene recycled from another building’s demolition, the north-facing roof is turf and the windows are made from beautiful recycled pitch pine.  We had a detailed tour of the cottage and a demonstration on how to make the hempcrete that the cottage is built from.  The Women in Architecture group would like to thank Rachel, and her partner Tom Wolley, for their hospitality and for being so generous with their time and the sharing of their expertise.
