Fair Pay for Part 1 Graduates – Living Wage Increase

18/11/2020

Over the past four years, RSUA has sought to tackle the issue of fair pay for Part 1 graduates following some reports of unattractive and at times exploitative terms and conditions.

By 2019, 68 practices had signed up to the RSUA Commitments to Fair Pay for Part 1 Graduates. The headline commitment is to pay a minimum of the UK Living Wage as set by the  Living Wage Foundation. On Monday 9 November 2020 it was announced that the recommended UK Living Wage will increase from £9.30 an hour to £9.50 an hour and that employers should implement this increase by 9 May 2021. Uncommit or Recommit

If your practice is listed above but you wish to end your commitment, please contact us immediately by emailing jude@rsua.org.uk. If you want to remain on the list, you don’t have to do anything.

These commitments are only of any value if they are honoured by all organisations that sign up to them. If you are a Fair Payorganisation, please ensure that you are meeting the commitments. Whilst the commitments are made voluntarily, having publicly made them, any breach of the commitments could be considered a breach of Standard 1 of the ARB Architects Code of Conduct. If you are aware of a Fair Pay employer failing to honour the commitments please report this directly to me, confidentially, on ciaran@rsua.org.uk or 0772 500 9765.

Commit for first time

We are keen to extend the uptake of these commitments. If your organisation is not currently listed above but you support the commitments please contact Jude Faloon by emailing jude@rsua.org.uk  This set of commitments applies equally to private sector and public sector employers.

Keeping RSUA members up to date

On the 1 December 2020 we will inform our 300 student members of the increase in the UK Living Wage as set by the Living Wage Foundation, along with a list of employers who have agreed to continue honouring the commitments. We will also be asking all current Part 1 graduates to report any deviations from the set of commitments.
