Proposed RIBA Curriculum Topic: Building conservation and heritage
Timber is one of the oldest and most widely used materials for construction and its preservation and conservation is something which requires care and specific knowledge. RSUA has invited one of Ireland’s experts in timber preservation to deliver this seminar which will help participants understand deterioration of historic timbers and how to mitigate against their loss. Through a series of examples and case studies, floors, ceilings, panelling and doors will be considered and investigative techniques will be shown in a practical context.

Sven Habermann is the Manager and accredited lead conservator at Conservation|Letterfrack, who are experts in Ireland offering a wide range of conservation and restoration services. They combine the time-honoured skills of carving, turning, marquetry work, decorative finishing and metalwork with the latest advances in modern conservation techniques, and undertake conservation and restoration work on individual objects, furniture collections and the historic interiors of some of Ireland’s finest public buildings.
