NEC3 ‘short contract’ – a half day seminar

NEC 3 ‘short contract’: Administration from a Practical Perspective

The NEC3 short form of contract is administered by the Employer.  There is no mention of a Project Manager, a Supervisor or any other consultant for that matter.  However, the contract still necessitates the issue of notices, certificates etc.  The likelihood is that most Employers will seek to have the contract administered by an agent and this is frequently their architect.

The intention of the seminar is to look at the role of the ‘contract administrator’ under the short contract, with a particular emphasis on the practical aspects of the task.  This will involve looking at the express procedures in the contract and also addressing the need for and drafting of some of the template documents necessary to undertake the role effectively.  Consideration will also be given to the drafting of ‘Additional Clauses’ and clauses for the inclusion within the Works Information.

Speaker – Michael Dunn BSc LLB LLM FRICS FCIArb – is a Divisional Director with Rex Procter & Partners based in Bradford.  He is a visiting lecturer at Queen’s University Belfast and the University of Central England on their post graduate architecture courses, and a visiting lecturer at Leeds Metropolitan University on its MSc in Construction Law & Dispute Resolution Course.  He is an RIBA and RSUA specialist practice consultant.
