Contracting for success: dealing with uncertainty

As our society and economy emerge from lockdown there remains substantial uncertainty on the future impact of COVID-19 and the potential for further outbreaks. Many projects have already been delayed due to staff shortages, a lack of certainty around essential and non-essential activity, and of course the initial lockdown. All of this presents architects with challenges managing projects on behalf of clients, not least with respect to contracts and how these risks are shared, mitigated, and priced.

RSUA has organised this hour long seminar with Cleaver Fulton Rankin to consider contract options in the context of this uncertainty and with a focus on delivering projects to keep the wider sector moving.

Course content

The session will cover:

·       Key clauses within standard form contracts in respect of force majeure, termination and applications for extra time and/or money

·       Clauses required in new contracts to protect against future events

·       Supplier Relief within the public sector arena

Lisa Boyd is a Director within Cleaver Fulton Rankin’s Dispute Resolution department and heads up the Procurement team. Her expertise spans across a number of practice areas including contentious and non-contentious Public Procurement, Construction and PPP/PFI/Projects. Lisa also has extensive experience in commercial contracts.

Lisa is on the roll of solicitors in both Northern Ireland and England & Wales and is a Member of Technology and Construction Solicitors Association and the Procurement Lawyers€™ Association.
