This great social and cultural evening will focus on the power of architecture to bring about positive change. It all kicks off at 7pm on Friday 22nd October 2021.
The Banana Block at Portview Trade Centre, 310 Newtownards Road, Belfast will host Architecture Night 2021. Formerly the home of the Strand Spinning Mill, which was once the largest flax tow spinning mill in the world, this building is soon to be launched as a banana field and living museum. As we strive to retain more of our existing buildings, the creative re-use of this chunk of industrial heritage provides the perfect location to celebrate local architecture.
We are delighted to welcome back our host who has been with us from the start in 2016, BBC’s Ireland correspondent Mark Simpson, who will masterfully guide us through the three parts of the evening. Part 1 confers Honorary Membership in recognition of those who have contributed to architecture in Northern Ireland. Part 2 will celebrate the best architecture students. Part 3 will focus on the RSUA/JP Corry Design Competition for Early Career Architects – both the outcome of the 2019 competition and the launch of the 2021 competition.
Each of the three parts to the evening will have its own distinctive music and round of food. There will need to be a few changes this year to the loose and free format that Architecture Night is known for, but we’ll make sure there’s still plenty of opportunities to meet and chat and bump into people you know and people you don’t. There will be some complimentary drinks, but it looks like it will have to be less of a free-for-all than in the past. Dress is freestyle but warm.
Whilst we have a great big space to work with, we aren’t going to be packing people in. We’ve set an initial maximum of 215 and expect a brilliantly diverse crowd of architects working in all sorts of roles, architecture students, leading figures from the built environment sector and others. It is an event to which you may wish to invite clients or other guests.
Tickets which cover dinner, some complimentary drinks and live music are £40+VAT for RSUA members and RIBA International Members, £50+VAT for standard purchase and £20+VAT for RSUA/RIBA student members.
Early booking is advised, tickets below.
