Launch of ‘Ulster Modern – Modern Movement Architecture in Northern Ireland, 1921-1949’

RSUA and Gandon Editions invite you to attend the launch of Paul Larmour’s new book, ‘Ulster Modern: Modern Movement Architecture in Northern Ireland, 1921-1949’.

This new book recounts in detail the formative period of modern architecture in Northern Ireland, from its founding in 1921 until the end of the 1940s. It is illustrated using rare archival photographs, original architectural drawings, and contemporary sources in the architectural press from Ireland and beyond, revealing a rich seam of buildings of unsuspected quality and depth.

Among these the schools of Reginald Wilshere, the cinemas of John McBride Neill, and the houses by Philip Bell stand out, while a host of other notable buildings and projects are also recounted, many published for the first time since they were built or proposed.
