Construction product availability expected to stabilise next year

24/08/2021

The co-chairs of the Construction Leadership Council’s Product Availability working group have released a statement on the current construction product shortage and price increases.

John Newcomb, CEO of the Builders Merchants Federation and Peter Caplehorn, CEO of the Construction Products Association, said that timber, cement, roofing products, bricks, blocks, insulation, steel and cable management systems remain the products in shortest supply.  They have said that while recently there has been a slight slowing in price inflation, it is likely to be 2022 before prices of all of the affected construction products stabilise.

The main concerns at the minute are related to the shortage of drivers and the resulting impact on deliveries. The backlog of container shipping due to COVID restrictions and the resultant reduced capacity is expected to continue into early 2022.
