Climate NI update – summer of heat extremes
29/07/21
After Northern Ireland’s first ever Met Office extreme heat warning, with temperature records broken three times in one week, the Climate NI e-bulletin leads with the latest UK climate change risk assessment technical report, which deals with the risks from rising temperatures as the planet warms.
The document suggests beneficial actions that could be taken over the next few years to mitigate this risk, including updating building regulations to address overheating, promoting natural ventilation and cooling technologies, and designing new infrastructure to avoid the need for future retrofitting.
Other news in the Climate NI e-bulletin includes a vulnerability assessment of historical sites and monuments around Lough Foyle’s shoreline, and UK’s leading house builders forming a task force to achieve net zero. You can sign up to subscribe to the bulletin here.
