Through this well-considered and sensitive combination of conservation, reconfiguration and extension, a highly committed client and design team have succeeded in restoring the 1835 Sion Stables from virtual dereliction to a building that contributes positively to the architectural quality and community life of the village as well as chronicling the inspirational achievement of the Herdman family’s aspirations for combining social reform and industrial entrepreneurship.
