Architects working to improve Building Regulations

14/01/2020

The Northern Ireland Building Regulations Advisory Committee (NIBRAC) has received two new members following appointments made by the Department of Finance (DoF). RSUA member Ross Reid will represent the Architecture area of expertise on NIBRAC while David Algie will cover the area of Building Services, Engineering and Energy. NIBRAC is currently chaired by Mabel Higgins, who was appointed in May 2019.

In November 2019, the DoF Permanent Secretary established a Construction Industry Forum (CIFNI) Building Regulations Subgroup to assist NIBRAC by representing the views of the local construction industry, including RSUA. The specific role of the Subgroup is to help NIBRAC consider any DoF proposals which may arise in the areas of Fire, Conservation of Fuel and Power, and, Site Preparation and Resistance to Moisture.

RSUA will be represented on the subgroup by:

  1. Sarah McGonigle of White Ink and Barry Higgins of Todd Architects (Fire)
  2. Rachel Bevan of Rachel Bevan Architects (Conservation of Fuel and Power)
  3. Glenn Massey of RPP (Site Preparation and Resistance to Moisture)

The Department of Finance anticipates that further members will be recruited to NIBRAC shortly and you can find out more about the recent appointees on the Department’s website.
