Code Level 5 at Carryduff - Stage 1 Judging

In March this year a major two-stage design competition was launched for 70 social/affordable homes to Code Level 5 of the Code for Sustainable Homes.

The NI Housing Executive is the competition promoter, Oaklee Homes Group is the client and the Department for Social Development is funding the project.

The RSUA is acting as competition advisor and 113 architectural practices registered to participate in the competition, 61 entered the competition and the Stage 1 judging recently took place.

On the judging panel (pictured, l-r) are Dolores Ferran - Head of Development NIHE, Niall Sheridan - Director of Operations Oaklee Homes Group, Patrick Bellew - independent judge and engineer specialising in the design of high performance, low energy buildings, John McPeake - Director of Design and Property Services NIHE, Dickon Robinson who chaired the panel - architect and Chair of Building Futures at the RIBA.  He was a founding commissioner of CABE and is best known for commissioning some of the most innovative housing projects of the 1990's when he was Director of Development at the Peabody Trust and Donal MacRandal - Principal Architect Housing Advisory Branch CPD.

Five architectural practices have been shortlisted including:

B3 Architects – Newcastle-upon-Tyne

The Boyd Partnership – Belfast

Paul Davis and Partners – London

RMJM – Edinburgh

Robinson McIlwaine – Belfast

Submissions for the second stage of the competition are due in September when the same set of judges is to make the final decision.
